Informed consent - blood collection via venipuncture by Mario Test
1. About the procedure
During venipuncture, blood is drawn from a vein, usually on the inside of the arm (antecubital fossa). This is a common, minimally invasive medical procedure performed by a BIG-registered professional (nurse or medical analyst). Only sterile disposable materials are used.
Possible risks and side effects:
- Mild pain, pressure or discomfort at the puncture site
- Bruising (hematoma) - usually disappears within 1–2 weeks
- Brief dizziness, lightheadedness or nausea
- Fainting (vasovagal reaction) - rare
- Local swelling or hardening at the puncture site
- Local infection at the puncture site - very rare
- Nerve damage or persistent pain - extremely rare
- Allergic reaction to tape, latex or disinfectant - rare
- Post-bleeding when using blood thinners or with clotting disorders
